We always feel like we are coming home when we go to San Jose del Cabo and it felt especially exciting coming back with Charley to meet friends that we left behind when we moved back to the states six years ago. Although she won’t remember , I can already picture us talking to her about her first road trip and going through the pictures with her when she’s older. Not to get too sappy but, I am overwhelmed with the love I feel for my little family and could not think of anywhere else I’d rather be. My whole world was in that truck bumping along crazy dirt roads and miles and miles of cactus.
Once in San Jose, we generally split our time camping and renting a condo where we used to live. This time because it was so hot and baby girl is so small, we decided to stay in the condo for 5 of the 6 days we were there. Most days, Greg and Kiya got up at sunrise to walk out to the estuary to surf his favorite wave while Charley and I slept in. When they’d come home we’d have breakfast and head out to “old man’s” or “the rock” for me to take a turn; after that, lunch, F.N.T .(family nap time), and then a swim in the pool before we go check the surf again at sunset. I know, life is rough!

On our last night, we decided to save a bit of money and camp out at Nine Palms, out on the east cape, so that we could enjoy a surf out there before heading back up north. We hadn’t been out there much this trip because it generally got really windy after 10 in the morning and didn’t let up all afternoon, making the surf conditions too choppy. When we arrived, we were surprised to see how much of the sand had been washed away to the point of being afraid of camping on the beach and having the tide come up too high. Poor Greg spent the better half of what was supposed to be a relaxing evening building a burm with a trench on either side. Regardless, It was a beautiful full moon night with a glassy surf session in the morning….a perfect send off.
